Horizon4 Privacy Policy
Horizon4 ("Horizon4", "we", "us") is a private, non-commercial productivity assistant built and operated by Michael Smith for his own use and for members of his household he invites. This policy explains what information Horizon4 accesses, how it is used, stored and shared, and how you can have it deleted. It applies to the Horizon4 apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac and to the services that support them.
1. Who is responsible
Michael Smith operates Horizon4 and is responsible for the data it handles. Contact: masmith@gmail.com.
2. What information Horizon4 accesses
Horizon4 accesses only what you authorise when you sign in with Google, and only for your own account:
- Account identity: your name, Google account identifier and profile picture
(
openid,userinfo.profile). - Gmail (
gmail.modify): message headers, bodies, attachments and labels, so Horizon4 can show, sort, label, archive and draft mail, and send mail you approve. Horizon4 does not permanently delete mail. - Google Calendar (
calendar): your calendars and events, so Horizon4 can show your schedule and create or change events you ask for. - Google Contacts (
contacts.readonly): names, email addresses and phone numbers of your contacts, read only, to recognise the people in your mail and meetings. - Google Drive (
drive): your files and files shared with you, so Horizon4 can find and open documents next to related mail and meetings.
Horizon4 also keeps the OAuth tokens Google issues, so it can keep working without asking you to sign in each time. It does not collect your Google password.
3. How the information is used
Google user data is used only to provide and improve the features you see and use in Horizon4: showing and organising your mail, calendar, contacts and documents, preparing summaries and drafts for you, and carrying out actions you request. Specifically, Horizon4 does not:
- use Google user data for advertising, including targeted, personalised or interest-based advertising, or for retargeting;
- sell Google user data, or transfer it to data brokers or information resellers;
- use Google user data to determine credit-worthiness or for lending purposes;
- use Google user data to develop, improve or train generalised artificial intelligence or machine-learning models.
Automated and AI-assisted processing
Some features, such as summarising a message or drafting a reply, send the relevant content to an AI service to produce a result for you. This happens only to provide that feature to you, the content is not used by Horizon4 to train any model, and Horizon4 uses AI services only under terms or settings that do not permit them to train their models on this content.
Human access
No person reads your Google data except you, and the operator only where you have asked for help with a specific item, where it is needed for security (for example investigating abuse), or where the law requires it.
4. How the information is stored and protected
- Data is stored on servers controlled by the operator, protected by authentication and encrypted connections, and on your own devices.
- Data is encrypted in transit (TLS). OAuth tokens and credentials are kept in access-controlled secret stores, never in source code.
- Access to the systems holding your data is limited to the operator.
5. Sharing
Horizon4 does not share, sell or rent your Google user data. It is transferred to others only:
- to service providers that host or process it on Horizon4's behalf (cloud hosting, and AI services as described above), solely to provide Horizon4's features to you;
- when you direct it, for example by sending an email or sharing an event;
- where necessary to comply with applicable law, or to protect the security of Horizon4 or its users.
6. Retention and deletion
- Data copied from your Google account is kept only as long as needed to provide Horizon4's features to you, and is refreshed from Google as you use the app.
- You can disconnect Horizon4 at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Once access is revoked, Horizon4 can no longer read your Google data.
- To have Horizon4 delete the data it holds about you, email masmith@gmail.com. It will be deleted within 30 days, except where the law requires it to be kept.
- Backups expire on their normal schedule and are never used to restore data you asked to have deleted.
7. Google API Services User Data Policy
Horizon4's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
8. Children
Horizon4 is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the effective date above will change. If Horizon4 changes how it uses Google user data, you will be told before the change applies to your data and asked for consent where required.
